Dear family and friends,

We are in Australia and today we learned about oil spills. We read an article about an oil spill that happened in the great barrier reef. READ THE ARTICLE HERE

We did an experiment on oil spills using oil, water, cotton balls, tin foil balls, tissue, paper bags, sponges and feathers. We found out that some thing repel the water and some things absorb the water. We found out that lots of the stuff that we used absorbed the water. We can use this information to think about the best way to clean up an oil spill.

While we are in Australia we also want to go to the Great Coral Reef. There are lots of colourful fish we want to see there.

Sincerely,

Bridgitte! and John!

Dear family and classmates,

We have been in Brazil for about a week now and we have learned a lot about the country. One thing that we learned was that the Brazilian soccer player called PelĂ© invented this cool soccer kick. How it works is you jump in the air with your back on the ground and then you flip and kick the ball out of the air and hopefully it goes in the net. We have tried it before and it is really hard to do.

Next we are going to Australia and there are lots of cool things we hope to do there. One thing we hope to do is go to Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. We also want to see koalas because they are so cute. We also want to see a kangaroo and its floppy ears. Another thing we want to see is the Sydney Opera House and get our picture taken there. Some Australian food we want to eat is meat, vegetables and cheese.

It's going to be a fantastic trip to Australia. Thank you for reading our blog post.

Love,

Chloe and Matthew

Dear family and friends,

We are still in Brazil. This morning we saw a big mango tree and five monkeys were climbing on top of each other on the tree. It was really funny to see them climb on top of each other.

We visited the Amazon rainforest and it was really hot there. Lots of animals live there like spiders, monkeys, and we think zebras. We also went swimming in the Amazon river.

An aligator in the Amazon river. It almost bit off Ashleigh's nose!

When we were in Brazil, Mr. Cushman's sister, named Chloe Cushman, came in to teach us how to draw people's faces. She is 26 years old and she is a pro at drawing.

Thanks for reading our blog. We hope that we do more cool stuff in Brazil and you check back to hear about it.

Love,

Predictions for Brazil

Dear Cody kids,

We are about to go to Brazil. Would you like to come with us and eat some giant burgers from Brazil? But we must warn you, Brazilian burgers are giant so you might want to share one!

Brazil is the biggest country in South America and the fifth biggest country in the world! It is very hot in Brazil so you might want to wear shorts and a cap for your head. Soccer is the most popular sport in Brazil, so we hope you are ready to do some running. Brazil has a huge coast line, so after you are done playing you can go swimming on the beach.

The national colours in Brazil are green, yellow, and blue. Brazil's flag has a circle inside a diamond inside a rectangle.

We are excited to go to Brazil and will tell you more about it when we get there.

Thank-you for reading,

Chloe G. and Isabelle

Stories from Kenya

On Thursday, a lady named Loretta Penny came in to talk to us about Kenya. She told us a story of when she was on a safari. The story was about a tiny little lion cub. The mama was walking and the two cubs were walking beside her. She got scared because she thought that the people on the safari were going to hurt her cubs. She walked away with one of the cubs and the other cub stopped and looked around. This cub started crying and the mama came back and rubbed her cheek against the other one, hit his head, bit his tail, and dragged him away.

She also told us a story about an elephant. She was in a tent in Kenya drinking coffee and the chef came running out and screamed "everybody get inside and whoever is last, zip the tent up. There is an elephant charging towards us!" Next the lady looked out her window and saw a huge elephant walking beside her tent. She wasn't scared at all and she took a nice picture of it. She has been to Kenya eleven times and so has already seen tons of elephants.

Our speaker brought a little store with her and we were able to buy things from her. Some people bought magnetized balls, some people bought mood rings, and some people bought flutes.

We really liked the speaker and we learned a lot about Kenya.

Thanks for reading!
